Description

Product Introduction

Lightweight aluminum bar grating, naturally corrosion-resistant and about a third the weight of steel, in swage-locked and press-locked construction. Bars 3/4" to 2-1/2" deep. For removable platforms, marine docks and water treatment.

Overview

Aluminum bar grating offers a high strength-to-weight ratio and natural corrosion resistance that make it ideal where weight, handling and rust are concerns. Weighing roughly a third of equivalent steel, aluminum panels are easy to lift, position and remove, which suits trench covers, hatch covers and platforms that must be taken up for maintenance. Aluminum forms a protective oxide layer that resists weather, fresh and salt water and many chemicals without any coating, though it can also be anodized or painted for appearance. Grating is produced in swage-locked and press-locked construction because welding aluminum grating is uncommon, and bearing bars from 3/4" to 2-1/2" deep cover light walkways through to load-bearing platforms in a clean, lightweight, maintenance-friendly package.

Construction & Materials

Aluminum grating is fabricated from corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy with bearing bars 3/4" to 2-1/2" high and 1/8" to 1/4" thick. Cross rods are mechanically swaged into the bearing bars, or cross bars are pressed flush, on standard 19-W-4, 15-W-4 and 11-W-4 spacing. The mechanical joints avoid the heat distortion that welding aluminum can cause and keep the panels dimensionally stable. Surfaces are available plain for general use, serrated for anti-slip footing or grooved for additional grip. Panels come in 24" and 36" widths up to 288" long, with aluminum banding to seal bar ends. Mill finish is standard; anodizing or paint can be added for architectural projects. The light weight reduces structural dead load, freight cost and installation labor compared with steel.

Performance & Standards

Although lighter than steel, aluminum grating carries substantial loads, with capacities given in aluminum-specific load tables that reflect the alloy's properties; designers should size bearing bars by these tables rather than steel data. Open area of 20% to 89% provides excellent drainage and ventilation. Aluminum's natural corrosion resistance excels in marine, coastal, water-treatment and washdown environments, and it is non-sparking and non-magnetic for sensitive areas. Serrated surfaces raise slip resistance for safety compliance, and close-mesh ADA layouts suit pedestrian zones. Anodized finishes meet architectural durability standards. Because aluminum will not rust, it needs no galvanizing and offers a long, low-maintenance service life. Where galvanic contact with steel is possible, isolation details are recommended, and we can advise on compatible fasteners and saddle clips.

Applications

Aluminum bar grating is favored for marine docks, piers, boat ramps and offshore platforms thanks to its salt-water resistance and easy handling. It is widely used in water and wastewater treatment plants, swimming-pool decks and food-processing areas where corrosion and hygiene matter. Its light weight makes it the go-to for removable trench and hatch covers, portable platforms, ramps and roof-access walkways that workers must lift by hand. Architects choose anodized aluminum grating for sunscreens, facades and decorative walkways. Non-sparking, non-magnetic properties suit electrical, fuel and instrument areas. From lightweight mezzanine decks to drainage covers and gangways, aluminum grating delivers durable, rust-free service while reducing structural load and making installation and maintenance faster and safer than with heavier steel panels.

Why Choose Zhongman

Zhongman manufactures aluminum bar grating in swage-locked and press-locked construction to your bearing-bar depth, spacing and panel size, with plain, serrated or grooved surfaces. We supply mill, anodized or painted finishes and matching aluminum banding, stair treads, trench covers and saddle clips for complete, corrosion-free installations. Each panel is inspected for joint integrity, flatness and dimension, and we provide aluminum load tables and material certificates so your engineers can specify accurately. Our mechanical-joint process keeps panels flat and distortion-free, and the light weight lowers your freight and handling costs on export orders. Backed by extensive grating and wire-mesh experience, Zhongman delivers durable, lightweight aluminum grating at competitive factory pricing with dependable lead times and knowledgeable technical support from quote to delivery.
