Description

Product Introduction

Serrated bar grating with saw-tooth bearing-bar tops that bite into footwear for slip resistance on wet, oily or icy surfaces. Bars 3/4" to 4" deep in galvanized steel, aluminum or stainless. For ramps, stair landings and walkways.

Overview

Serrated bar grating is defined by the saw-tooth notches cut into the top edge of each bearing bar. These small, repeating teeth create a gripping surface that bites into boots and shoe soles, dramatically improving traction where surfaces are wet, oily, greasy or icy. The serrations are formed before the panel is assembled, so they appear on every bearing bar across the deck for consistent grip in all walking directions. Serrated grating is available in welded, swage-locked and press-locked construction and in carbon steel, aluminum and stainless, making it adaptable to almost any platform or walkway. Because the serration is a surface feature rather than a separate construction type, you keep full structural choice while adding the slip resistance that safety-critical access areas demand.

Construction & Materials

Bearing bars 3/4" to 4" deep and 1/8" to 1/4" thick are serrated along their top edge, then joined to cross bars by welding, swaging or pressing on standard 19-W-4, 15-W-4 or 11-W-4 spacing. The serration slightly reduces effective bar height, so load tables for serrated panels account for the notched top. Hot-dip galvanizing coats carbon-steel panels and flows into the serrations without filling them, preserving grip outdoors; aluminum and stainless serrated panels resist corrosion in chemical and marine duty. Standard 24" and 36" wide panels run to 288" long, with banding bars sealing serrated bar ends at edges and openings. The teeth are sized and pitched to grip footwear effectively while still shedding water, mud and debris so the surface stays drainable and self-cleaning.

Performance & Standards

Serrated grating significantly raises the slip-resistance rating of a walking surface compared with plain bar tops, a key requirement for OSHA-style workplace safety and slip-fall prevention. Open area still ranges from about 20% to 89% by spacing, so the deck drains liquids quickly and stays clear of standing water that causes slips. The serration adds traction without sacrificing the published load capacity for the chosen bar depth and span, which is documented in load tables for serrated panels. For pedestrian and public areas, serrated panels can be paired with close-mesh ADA layouts to satisfy both small-opening and anti-slip needs. Galvanized, aluminum and stainless finishes meet the corrosion and durability standards appropriate to outdoor, washdown and chemical environments.

Applications

Serrated bar grating is the standard choice wherever footing safety is critical: ramps, stair landings, gangways, loading docks, and walkways in wet, oily or freezing conditions. It is heavily used in oil and gas, petrochemical, water-treatment, food-processing and marine facilities where spilled liquids and washdown make plain surfaces hazardous. Maintenance platforms, pipe-rack walkways and tank-top access decks specify serrated panels to protect workers carrying tools or operating in poor weather. Stair treads in particular benefit from serration, combined with a nosing for visibility and grip. Because serration is available in every construction type and material, it can be applied selectively to high-risk zones of a larger installation, upgrading safety on ramps and landings while plain or grooved panels serve lower-risk areas.

Why Choose Zhongman

Zhongman serrates bearing bars in-house and offers the anti-slip feature across welded, swage-locked and press-locked grating in carbon steel, aluminum and stainless. Our serration depth and pitch are controlled for reliable, consistent grip, and we verify tooth geometry along with panel flatness and joint integrity before shipment. We supply serrated-panel load tables, galvanizing certificates and material test reports so your team can document worker-safety compliance. Custom panel sizes, matching serrated stair treads with nosings, banding and toe plates are fabricated to drawing, and panels are crated to protect the serrated edges during export transit. With our wire-mesh and grating expertise, Zhongman delivers safe, durable anti-slip decking at competitive factory pricing with dependable lead times and full technical backup.
