Gabion Mesh
Double-twisted hexagonal mesh for gabion baskets, slope protection and ecological engineering.

Description
Double-twisted hexagonal mesh for gabion baskets, slope protection and ecological engineering.
Hexagonal Wire Mesh is a double-twisted woven mesh that forms the foundation of gabion baskets, reno mattresses and ecological slope protection systems. It is manufactured on dedicated weaving machines that twist each pair of wires together three half-turns, creating a continuous hexagonal pattern with uniform, evenly spaced openings. The double-twist construction is the key technical feature: because the mesh is not welded, a single broken wire cannot unravel the structure, so the mesh retains its integrity and load-carrying ability under heavy fill and ground movement. The wire is drawn from soft, low-carbon steel and protected with galvanized, Galfan or PVC coating for long-term corrosion resistance. Heavy selvedge wires reinforce the edges of every panel.
Double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh is engineered for structural reliability and long service life in protection works: • Non-ravel construction: the double-twisted weave means a single cut or damaged wire will not cause the mesh to unwind, preserving overall strength. • High flexibility: the woven structure absorbs settlement and deformation without failure, ideal for soft or uneven ground. • Tensile strength: continuous twisted wires distribute load across the panel and resist tearing. • Permeability: open hexagonal cells allow free drainage behind retaining and channel structures. • Corrosion resistance: galvanized, Galfan and PVC coatings extend service life in wet, saline and polluted environments. • Versatility: the same mesh forms box gabions, mattresses, channel linings and slope facings.
Hexagonal wire mesh is available in a range of standard configurations and can be customized to project needs. Typical mesh openings include 60×80, 80×100 and 100×120 mm, defined by the twist length and wire spacing. Mesh wire diameters are generally offered in the 2.0-3.4 mm range, with heavier selvedge and lacing wires available for reinforced edges and connections. Coating options include heavy zinc galvanizing, Galfan (zinc-aluminium alloy) for superior corrosion performance, and an additional PVC layer in standard colors such as grey or green for the most aggressive environments. The mesh can be supplied as rolls or pre-assembled gabion and mattress units, with panel length, width and PVC color available as options. All material is manufactured to international standards for double-twisted mesh and gabion works.
Hexagonal wire mesh is one of the most widely used materials in hydraulic and geotechnical engineering. Its primary application is the fabrication of woven gabion baskets and reno mattresses for retaining walls, riverbank stabilization, channel and canal lining, and scour protection around bridges and culverts. It is also used directly as slope reinforcement and erosion-control facing, often combined with vegetation for ecological restoration. Beyond gabions, the mesh serves rockfall drapery, embankment protection and shoreline defense. Because the double-twisted structure performs well under settlement and hydraulic loading, it is specified for flood control, highway and railway construction, mining and land-reclamation projects.
