Description

Product Introduction

Dutch weave wire cloth with offset warp and weft wires forming deep, high-strength media for fine and ultra-fine liquid and gas filtration. Plain, twill and reverse Dutch weaves in 304/316/316L stainless give micron-rated retention.

Overview

Dutch weave wire cloth is a specialized filtration media in which thicker warp wires are crossed by much finer, densely packed weft wires. Unlike open square mesh, the weft wires are pushed tightly together so the openings are not square holes but tortuous, triangular gaps formed between adjacent wires. This unique geometry gives Dutch weaves their hallmark: very fine filtration ratings combined with high mechanical strength and excellent dirt-holding capacity. The cloth is woven exclusively from corrosion-resistant alloys, most commonly 304, 316 and 316L stainless, for demanding process duty. Plain Dutch, twill Dutch and reverse Dutch variants each shift the balance between fineness, flow and strength, making this family the workhorse of precision industrial filtration.

Construction & Materials

In plain Dutch weave, fine weft wires pack tightly over coarse warp wires in a one-over-one pattern, yielding fine surface filtration. Twill Dutch weave passes each weft over two and under two warp wires, allowing even finer, double-layered weft packing for the lowest micron ratings. Reverse Dutch inverts the gauges, using finer warp and coarser weft to maximize flow and dirt capacity. We weave from 304, 316 and 316L stainless, plus nickel and special alloys for aggressive media. Warp wires typically run 0.1 to 0.8 mm while weft wires can be as fine as 0.025 mm. Counts span from 12x64 coarse filters up to 400x2800 ultra-fine micron cloth, calendered flat where surface smoothness is critical.

Key Features & Advantages

Dutch weave's defining benefit is achieving micron-level filtration in a single layer that still carries substantial pressure loads, eliminating the fragility of plain fine mesh. The tortuous flow path captures particles in depth, boosting dirt-holding capacity and extending element life between cleanings. Plain Dutch offers reliable surface filtration that backwashes cleanly; twill Dutch reaches the finest ratings down to a few microns; reverse Dutch maximizes throughput for high-flow systems. The all-stainless construction withstands heat, pressure, corrosion and repeated cleaning, qualifying the cloth for harsh chemical and high-temperature service. Calendering can compress the surface for absolute ratings, and the dense, locked weave resists wire migration and shifting under flow, ensuring stable, repeatable filtration performance over a long element life.

Applications

Dutch weave cloth is the standard media for precision filtration across heavy industry. Polymer and plastics producers use it in extruder screen packs and spin-pack filters to remove gels and contaminants from melt. Hydraulic and lubrication systems rely on it for fine particle removal under high pressure. Oil, gas and petrochemical refineries filter catalysts, slurries and process fluids with stainless Dutch elements. The cloth forms filter discs, leaves, candles, cartridges and baskets for chemical, pharmaceutical and food processing. Aerospace and automotive fuel systems, water purification, and gas separation all employ Dutch weave for its strength-to-fineness ratio. It is also fabricated into centrifuge and pressure-leaf filter screens where durability under load is essential.

Quality & Customization

Each Dutch weave order is matched to a target micron rating verified by bubble-point and glass-bead testing, with documented air and water permeability data. We supply 304, 316, 316L and specialty alloys with full material certificates and traceability for regulated industries. The cloth can be left as-woven, calendered to an absolute rating, or sintered for dimensional stability under pressure. Fabrication includes laser- or die-cut discs, formed cylinders, pleated elements, edge-welded packs and multi-layer sintered laminates. We tailor warp and weft gauges, weave type and roll width to the exact flow-versus-fineness balance the application requires. From R&D sample coupons to production filter programs, our Dutch weave line delivers consistent, certified filtration media.
