Description
Plain-weave square wire mesh with equal openings in both directions, giving precise, uniform apertures for filtration, sieving, insect screening and general use. Woven in galvanized, stainless and brass, mesh counts 2x2 to 200x200.
Woven square wire mesh is the classic plain-weave cloth in which warp and weft wires cross over and under each other one at a time, producing square openings of identical size in both directions. This simple, symmetrical structure delivers the most predictable aperture in the industry, making it the default choice wherever consistent particle separation or flow control matters. The equal mesh count along both axes gives the same open area regardless of orientation, simplifying specification and installation. Available across an enormous range, from coarse 2x2 hardware cloth to ultra-fine 200x200 filter grades, square mesh suits filtration, screening, ventilation, insect protection and countless guarding tasks. It is the foundation product of the woven wire family.
Plain weave is woven on precision shuttle or rapier looms where every weft wire passes alternately over and under each warp wire, holding the square geometry tightly without crimping. We weave from galvanized and mild steel for economy, 304, 316 and 316L stainless for corrosion and hygiene, and brass for fine-detail and conductive uses. Wire diameters range from 0.05 mm hair-fine filter wire up to 3 mm robust gauges, with apertures from 75 microns to 12 mm. Open area typically runs 30 to 80 percent depending on count and gauge. Mesh is supplied in rolls or cut sheets, with edges selvedged, soldered or welded to prevent fraying for demanding applications.
The plain square weave's greatest strength is aperture uniformity: because openings are identical in length and width, separation and filtration results are highly repeatable. The interlocked structure is mechanically stable, holding shape during handling, tensioning and fabrication. A vast catalogue of counts and gauges lets engineers dial in exact open area and particle cut points. Square mesh is easy to clean, easy to cut and weld, and accepts coatings or epoxy treatment readily. Stainless and brass grades resist corrosion and contamination, qualifying for food, pharmaceutical and laboratory work. Its balanced strength-to-openness ratio means it filters efficiently while still allowing strong flow, and it forms cleanly into cylinders, cones and flat panels.
Square woven mesh appears almost everywhere fine separation or protection is needed. Filtration and screening use it for liquids, slurries, powders and gases across chemical, oil and water-treatment plants. Laboratories and test sieves rely on tightly toleranced square mesh for accurate particle sizing. Lighter galvanized and stainless grades serve as insect and fly screens, ventilation grilles and machine guards. The mesh is fabricated into filter discs, baskets, cylinders and centrifuge linings. Food and beverage processors use stainless square mesh for sifting flour, sugar and grain. It also functions in EMI shielding, speaker grilles, ventilation grilles and decorative infill panels. Custom cut sizes, rolled cylinders and formed components are supplied to drawing for OEM assemblies.
We weave square mesh to international aperture standards and verify each batch with optical aperture measurement and open-area calculation. Customers can specify exact mesh count, wire diameter, alloy and roll width, and we supply matching mill certificates and material traceability. Fabrication services include die-cut discs, rolled cylinders, welded or soldered edges, framed panels and multi-layer laminated filter packs. Finishing options cover bright annealed stainless, electro-polishing, PVC coating and tin or nickel plating of brass. For filtration clients we can sinter or calender mesh to fix the aperture under pressure, and laminate layers for strength. From single sample swatches to bulk roll programs, our square mesh line delivers the repeatable consistency that separation-critical processes demand.
